⁴⁰ In total, there were twelve cities allotted to the families of the Merarites (the rest of the Levites).

⁴¹ In all, there were forty-eight cities together with their pastures for the Levites within the land in the possession of the Israelites. ⁴² Each of these cities has pastures surrounding it; this was true of all of the cities.
